Halas.am

Adam Nishma, the talented designer of this project, initially planed to complete this project on his own using a premade WordPress template. Due to the nature of the complexity of this project, we both agreed that a premade template would not get him close to the desired design and functionality. Adam hired us to create a custom application according to his designs and it was simply a pleasure working with him. Halas.am was indeed a challenge, that involved various aspects of our expertise.

Some technical points
The main feature of the site is a streaming player which allows users to listen to the HALAS radio. The actual player is based on a plugin that was specified by the client beforehand. As part of the desired functionality, the site pulls data from the streaming server regarding the current program played as well as calculates & displays similar programs (defined by “tags” in the backend). In addition, integrated within the site is AJAX page loading which allows navigation that does not reload the entire page and thus enabling continuous play without interference. The site has many other features like a ‘SFX’ archive and a ‘Program’ archive with custom search and play functionality.

HALAS Radio, is a non-profit internet radio station broadcasting from The Israeli Center for Digital Art in Holon, Israel. HALAS Radio is a meeting place for local art and music communities as well as neighboring communities from the Middle East and the whole wide world, while reaching diverse new audience. This unique encounter between the realm of art and the realm of music delivers an original, multi-disciplinary approach that goes beyond the limits of any one single medium.
